Hope House Newsletter January 2024

Happy New Year to you all.

Christmas at the house was a blessed time and everyone was very grateful for the generous donations of food and presents that were gifted this year. Christmas can be a challenging time for many of the men but the good wishes from the community helped them to know they are supported. Christmas was marked in a number of ways, including the residents hosting a Carol Service for all those they are working with. It was a very moving event as a few of them shared stories including how the Hope House project is helping them.

In our last bulletin we mentioned that we were interviewing for a new manager, and we are delighted to announce that Ryan Parcell was successful and started in post in November. Ryan had already been working at the house for a year as a Support Worker and part time Assistant Manager – it was therefore a smooth transition for him and the team are working together well.

We have also had a change in residents, a number have moved on to their own properties and some new guys have joined us. These kinds of changes always take residents time to readjust but the house remains calm and supportive, and those who have been here the longest are good role models for the new guys.

One of the aims of the project is to keep in touch with residents when they move on and offer support for as long as they want it. We have started monthly meet ups to enable this to happen. In addition, a few joined in on Christmas Day and also came to the Carol Service. We find it to be an encouragement to new residents, seeing how far others have come.

We’ve also recently had a visit from the Mayor of Chesterfield, Mick Brady and his Chaplain. They came to find out more about the project and were very supportive of what we are all doing.

As you will be aware, we have been fundraising over the past year for new windows and new insulated rendering for the front of the house, and in the New Year we reached our target. The new windows have already been fitted and are making a large difference already to sound and heat insulation, and the rendering project will start shortly. We are very grateful to everyone who contributed, it is a project we have been planning for a number of years now and it is wonderful to see it taking shape.

If you are a praying person, our current prayer requests are as follows:
-Please continue to pray for the residents who are moving on, pray for protection and good life decisions.
-Please also pray for the new residents coming in, that they settle in well.
-Please pray for the staff team that they continue to work well together.
-And finally, please pray for the health of our residents and that they receive the professional help they need.

Our next Zoom prayers for the project is on Monday 22 April 2024 at 7-7.40pm.  If you want to join us follow  this link or log in on Zoom using:
